Wayne Mitchell Smoot (1949 – 2026)

Wayne Mitchell Smoot, 77, of Luray, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Washington Masonic Cemetery with Pastor Danny Herring.

Wayne was born on May 26, 1949, in Culpeper, Virginia, the son of the late Billy and Helen Smoot.

He retired after many dedicated years from DynCorp.

Wayne was a faithful member of the Luray Pentecostal Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and church family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend. All who knew him will greatly miss him.

On September 9, 1967, he married the love of his life, Shirley Wines Smoot, and they spent 59 wonderful years together.

Surviving, along with his wife, are two sons, Chris Smoot (Tabitha) and Todd Smoot, both of Luray; brother, Craig Smoot (Diane) of Frederick, Maryland; six grandchildren, Chrissy, Maddie, Dalton, Meghan, Josh and Johnny; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Chrissy, Maddie, Dalton, Meghan, Josh, and Johnny will be pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 9, from 1-2 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
