Republican vs Independent Conservative

Published

on

As chairman of the Warren County Republican Committee, I have noticed some confusion about who identifies as what. Does this sound familiar? Everyone seems to be confused in 2024.

The Republican-endorsed candidates in Warren County participated in a forum to be vetted and earn their endorsement in June. Now, let’s be honest: Warren County is a 70%+ Republican community. Everyone knows that you will not win an election here as a Democrat; the only hope is to call yourself an independent. In recent years, the fad we see during the election season is that the independents have begun identifying themselves as “independent conservatives.”

Lori Cockrell is our Mayor, and she has worked diligently to untangle years’ worth of contention, litigation, and necessary work that had fallen behind. Lori treats the town staff with respect. She has represented ALL people, not just Republicans, and her voting record shows that. She is not a yes man to a political party; her views and values happen to align with the party that endorsed her, so it all comes together.

Options in an election are something to be grateful for. Look to the DNC, which didn’t have an option for their candidate. However, 2 years is not enough time to accomplish many things as the Mayor, especially with the high turnover in council members constantly needing to be brought up to speed. If Lori had done something in the last 2 years to make her deserving of losing the re-election, then so be it. But she has continuously proved to be level-headed, open-minded, and dedicated to serving.

Mayor Cockrell has no personal gain, fiscally or socially, from serving our community. She’s got the heart and mindset of public service, and she comes from a long line of that. She runs an honest campaign of hard work and dedication and runs on her own merits. I have witnessed her spend every ounce of her time outside of her long-term full-time job being present in the community, supporting businesses, listening to constituents, beautifying the community, and loving where she lives.

Vote Mayor Lori Athey Cockrell.
