Stone Branch Center for the Arts Welcomes Artist-in-Residence Linda L. Anderson
Stone Branch Center for the Arts in Front Royal will welcome Virginia-based artist Linda L. Anderson as its artist-in-residence for September 2026, accompanied by a new exhibition, “Creative Dimensions: Shaping Perception and Experience.”
During her residency, Anderson will work in the center’s Main Gallery on a new multimedia sculptural Artist’s Book, The Book of Eve, Part II: Mythic Cycles of Creation. The work is connected to her ongoing Book of Eve Legacy Project, which combines paintings, sculptural compositions, poetry, and Artist’s Books to explore relationships among the feminine archetype, nature, and the cosmos.
An opening reception for the exhibition will be held Friday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitors will also have an opportunity to hear directly from Anderson during an Artist Talk on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Stone Branch Center for the Arts, 114 E. Main St., Front Royal.
Anderson’s work focuses on the ecological and mythic dimensions of woodland landscapes, including the wooded terrain of the Shenandoah Valley. Her dimensional paintings, mixed-media compositions, and Artist’s Books draw upon her background in painting, printmaking, and sculptural processes.
Anderson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wright State University in 2000 and a Master of Humanities degree there in 2003. She earned her Master of Fine Arts from Marywood University in 2006.
Her exhibition history includes a solo show at the Margaret W. and Joseph L. Fisher Gallery at the Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria. Her work has also appeared internationally, including the 2011 International Women’s Day Centenary Global Arts Initiative exhibition 100 Women, 100 Artworks. Her painting Along the Amber Trail was exhibited at the Lower Silesian Public Library in Wroclaw, Poland, in 2012 and was later added to the library’s permanent collection.
More recently, Anderson participated in “Women of the DMV—Daughter of the Stars,” a multi-venue exhibition that included the Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery in Front Royal.
Anderson is the inaugural 2026 Artist-in-Residence at Stone Branch Center for the Arts. Visitors may see her working in the gallery during the center’s open hours.
