South Fork Fly Fishing Tournament Set for Sept. 12 at Shenandoah River State Park

Anglers will have a chance to compete on one of Virginia’s most scenic waterways during the South Fork Fly Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Shenandoah River State Park in Bentonville.

The event will run from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is open to anglers ages 10 and older. The tournament focuses on smallmouth bass, while other species, including musky and carp, may be entered in additional fun categories.

Participants age 16 and older must have a valid Virginia freshwater fishing license, and standard state fishing regulations will apply. Competitors must use designated park access points and photograph all catches using the official tournament ruler with geolocation and timestamps enabled. Screenshots will not be accepted.

All photos and scorecards must be submitted by 3 p.m. at Downriver headquarters.

The tournament will be held rain or shine, although high river levels could require adjustments.

Registration is required. The fee is $50 for adults and $25 for children ages 10 to 15. There is no additional park admission or parking fee for the event.

The program location is 884 Indian Hollow Road, Bentonville. Shenandoah River State Park’s main address is 350 Daughter of Stars Drive, Bentonville.

The event is presented by Shenandoah River State Park, Downriver Canoe Company, and the Friends of Shenandoah River State Park and supports conservation efforts.

The tournament had originally been scheduled for May 30 but was postponed to Sept. 12 because of river conditions.
