In an exciting development for Virginia’s economic future, Governor Glenn Youngkin has put his signature on SB 436, a bill set to bolster the state’s workforce significantly. This move comes as part of a broader initiative to ensure Virginia remains a beacon of success and prosperity.

Governor Youngkin expressed enthusiasm about the bill’s potential, highlighting its focus on fostering a skilled, adaptable, and resilient workforce in Virginia. “This legislation is a testament to our collective commitment to creating a thriving workforce,” Governor Youngkin remarked. He emphasized the importance of expanding apprenticeship opportunities, allowing more Virginians to access well-paying jobs through enhanced education and training programs.

The bill is not just about creating jobs; it’s about shaping futures. Senator David Suetterlein pointed out, “Not everyone needs a multi-year degree to succeed. Sometimes, a specific credential opens doors to great jobs and career advancement.” This legislation aims to diversify success paths by making sought-after, industry-recognized credentials more accessible through improved data collection and stronger partnerships between industries and educational institutions.

Delegate Wendell Walker also weighed in, underlining the importance of a skilled workforce for attracting and retaining business in Virginia. “To keep Virginia competitive, we need to ensure our workforce is second to none,” he stated. Walker praised Governor Youngkin’s leadership in making Virginia an ideal place for businesses, thanks to the strategic focus on enhancing employment access and opportunities.

By investing in people, Virginia is not just preparing for the future; it’s actively shaping it to be brighter for all its residents.
