Family Pharmacy Enters New Chapter with Ribbon-Cutting in Front Royal

Community leaders, local officials, and residents gathered on Saturday to celebrate a new chapter for one of Front Royal’s oldest healthcare providers. Shahbaz Chaudhry, the new owner of Family Pharmacy, was welcomed during a ribbon-cutting hosted by the Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.

Family Pharmacy, first established in 1978, is the only independent pharmacy in the area—a distinction repeatedly emphasized by speakers throughout the event. As chain pharmacies dominate the healthcare landscape, many highlighted the personal service and community focus that a locally owned pharmacy can provide.

A Community Asset

Chamber representative Bryon Biggs opened the event by expressing enthusiasm for the pharmacy’s continued presence in the community. “It’s exciting to have this ribbon-cutting today,” Biggs said. “This is the only independent pharmacy in our area, and it’s important for a lot of people—especially those with low or no insurance coverage.”

Mayor Lori Cockrell spoke next, noting that she had met with Chaudhry shortly after he purchased the business. She acknowledged the challenges of transitioning ownership and implementing new technology but praised the positive changes underway. “This isn’t a chain pharmacy,” Cockrell said. “You get that personal touch here, and that’s really important.”

Warren County Supervisor Cheryl Cullers echoed that sentiment. “It’s nice to know this isn’t a chain,” she said. “Some of the things I’ve heard about—what you’re trying to implement—will be a great asset to the community. Thank you for picking Front Royal and Warren County.”

A Vision for the Future

In his remarks, Shahbaz Chaudhry outlined a clear and community-centered vision for the future of Family Pharmacy. “We are here, we are local, and we are here to support the community,” he said. “We’re not just investing in a business—we’re investing in the quality of life for the people of this area.”

Among the upgrades already in place is a modernized software system, allowing customers to better track their prescriptions and deliveries. Medication verification now includes multiple checkpoints to ensure accuracy and safety.

Looking ahead, Chaudhry plans to expand services to include specialty pharmacy options and infusion therapy, helping meet broader healthcare needs in the region. “This pharmacy is not just for Front Royal,” he said. “It will serve the surrounding communities as well.”

Supporting Youth and Workforce Development

Beyond healthcare, Chaudhry is also investing in local workforce development. He has initiated a training program to certify pharmacy technicians, offering tuition support and hands-on experience to local residents. “We want to help our youth get better-paying, technical jobs,” he explained. “There’s a shortage of healthcare staff. If we train them here, they’ll have a future wherever they go.”

The pharmacy has also created a “Future Pharmacist” zone—a small area where children visiting the pharmacy can learn about medications, how to check blood pressure, and the basics of healthcare service. Each participant receives a certificate and a positive introduction to medical careers. “You never know what little thing will inspire a child,” Chaudhry said.

A New Era for a Historic Institution

Family Pharmacy has long been a trusted name in Front Royal. Under new leadership, it aims to remain a pillar of the community—providing personal, affordable, and accessible care to all.

As the ribbon was cut, longtime staff member “Miss Jane,” a familiar face to many, stood ready with scissors in hand. The crowd counted down: “Three, two, one…”

The ribbon fell, and a new chapter began.
