Fork District Voters Deserve Transparency

Published

on

As a resident of Warren County, I care deeply about the integrity of our local government and those who aspire to lead it.  In every election, voters need clear and honest information from the candidates, along with access to information to look up their values and level of integrity.

Recently, I found some public records about candidates that haven’t been brought up to be openly addressed throughout this campaign season.  These records include financial and legal matters that our community, especially those residing and voting in the Fork District should know about and discuss. While I respect everyone’s right to run for office, I also believe that leaders should be honest and should be held accountable.

When important facts about a candidate aren’t acknowledged or openly shared, questions of trust are raised.  Will those asking for our trust be willing to be fully transparent?  My intention here is not to condemn, but to raise awareness, and to encourage every voter in Warren County to take time to learn about the candidates running for office.

You can start with the following . . .

*Request copies of the candidate’s filings – Certificate of Candidate Qualifications & Statement of Economic Interests through our Warren County Registrar.

*Check Public Records in our Warren County Courthouse or the Virginia Judiciary Court system.

*If a candidate owns a business, you can look up their business on Virginia’s State Corporation Commission website to find out more about their professional affiliations.

*Local newspapers, personal and campaign social media sites are another good source to learn how candidates interact with others and respond to the public.

*Finally, you can talk to your neighbors and/or coworkers to hear what they know and/or think about the candidates.

Whether you vote early or on November 4, 2025, I hope you will take the time to learn more about the candidates, and ask yourself before casting your vote . . .

*Do I value integrity not just in words, but in action?

*Am I willing to ask hard questions of those who seek to represent me?

*Will I hold all candidates to the same standard, regardless of affiliation or personal connection?

Local elections may not grab headlines, but they do shape the future of our schools, our neighborhoods, and our daily lives.  Let’s make sure that the future of Warren County is built on a foundation of trust.
