On Wednesday (Oct. 25) the Warren County Administration released notice of work on Farmview Road as part of the current fiscal year’s successful Rural Addition Program (RAP) applications.  As we reported in our October 23 story on County applications in the next State budget cycle, VDOT revenue sharing in the Rural Addition Program helps fund improvements to secondary roads to bring them up to state standards in various criteria.

According to the County press release the work underway on Farmview Road in the Shenandoah Farms Sanitary District “will begin at the intersection of Howellsville Rd. and extend approx. 0.31mile west to a new cul-de-sac.  According to Deputy County Administrator, Bob Childress, who also provides management oversight within the SFSD,  ‘The project has been designed and will be constructed to meet VDOT standards to include drainage improvements, new culverts, wider shoulders, removal of vegetation and hazardous trees, improved sight distance, the upgrading of side street intersections, and a new paved surface.’

The project is being done at an estimated cost of $260,000.  Generally, that cost is divided at 50 percent State, 50 percent locality.  In the case of Sanitary Districts that final 50 percent is divided 25 percent County, 25 percent Sanitary District.  Once completed, the improved roadway is turned over to VDOT for maintenance.

According to County Administrator Doug Stanley, “Farmview Road serves one of the most densely populated areas of the Shenandoah Farms community.  Once completed the project will represent a huge step forward in meeting the District and Property Owner Associations long-term goal of providing safer access into the Riverview section of the community.”

“The project, managed by the County, was number two on the Rural Addition priority list for the Shenandoah Farms Sanitary District Capital Improvement Plan (CIP),” the County press release noted.

General Excavation, Inc. (GEI) of Warrenton has been contracted for the major roadway construction.  County Deputy Administrator Childress said with the cooperation of the weather, the project could be completed in about 60 days.

“While Traffic will be controlled with signs and flaggers there will be short periods of time when the roadway will be closed,” Childress observed, adding, “To avoid delays, residents should detour and/or alter their normal travel patterns to avoid the work zone.”
