The death of Harry Glenn Fitzwater, 72, of Bentonville remains under investigation as an “accidental death” according to Warren County Sheriff Daniel McEathron.

Fitzwater has been identified as the man who died Thursday in a suspected drowning in the Shenandoah River. McEathron stated in the written release that “an autopsy has been conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas, Virginia.” He did not, however, elaborate on any information gleaned from the autopsy or the CME’s report.

At approximately 6:11 P.M. on September 6, 2018, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing adult, later identified as Harry Glenn Fitzwater. It was reported that Fitzwater was last seen at approximately 2:20 p.m. on September 6, 2018.

A golf cart that Mr. Fitzwater frequently used was located along the river on Misty Meadow Lane in Warren County. Warren County Fire and Rescue units located Mr. Fitzwater in the river at approximately 7:25 p.m., according to the release. He was down river from where his golf cart had been located. His family reported that he was not able to swim.

Fitzwater had a known medical history, and would frequently use his golf cart near the river. He was also unable to swim.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Lt. Phillip Henry at 540-635-7100 or ltphenry@warrencountysheriff.org.
