Front Royal Brewing Company (FRB) of Front Royal, VA has won medals in three categories in the Beer Army – Beer Wars competition, held in January 2019. This commercial beer judging contest was sponsored by the Army Foundation. The event was open to all commercial breweries and was sanctioned by the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). All judging was done by BJCP certified judges and beer industry leaders. Medals of Gold, Silver and Bronze were awarded to the top three finishers in each beer judging category.

FRB took home two gold medals and a silver. In the Vienna Larger category FRB’s Linden Larger took a gold medal; in the American Porter category, the Knight of the Valley also won a gold medal; and in the Historic Beer category, we took a silver for our Hauptstrasse Kottbusser.

“This is one of the first national beer competitions we entered with of our main production beers, and we are thrilled to take home medals for three of our submissions,” said Tim Arndt, FRB’s head brewer. “One of my goals as a brewer is to re-introduce and give new life to classic heirloom beer styles, and we are pleased to see our Hauptstrasse Kottbusser was one of the winners in the Historical Beer category. I think this shows there is a strong interest in classic beer styles brewed with a twist,” added Arndt.

The Beer Army Foundation is a 501c(3) nonprofit community outreach organization. The Foundation’s Mission is to promote education, volunteerism and economic impact while advocating craft brewing and the beer industry in general by creating and hosting beer related events in the communities that support the foundation.
