Warren CoalitionUnderstanding and Recognizing Addiction and Your Role in Changing Outcomes

The Warren Coalition is sponsoring its 3rd annual conference at Lord Fairfax Community College from 9:00am-3:45pm on March 17th.

The focus of the conference this year is on substance abuse and will feature nationally acclaimed speakers on the topics of recognizing people who are using illegal substances, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) and ways to support children born with NAS, trauma informed care, addiction 101, males and trauma, the culture of recovery and the necessary steps for change.

The cost of the conference is $50 for individuals and $45 for groups of 5 or more until March 8th, and then the cost goes to $60 for individuals and $55 for groups of 5 or more. The cost includes breakfast and lunch.

Features Speakers include:

Henrietta Bada, MD, MPH, Joe Keil, DRE, and David Washington, LCSW-C, LCADC, MSW

Dr Henrietta Bada, MD, MPH is Professor and Vice Chair for Academic Affairs, Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine and the Department of Behavioral Health , College of Public Health at the University of Kentucky. She completed her residency at the University of Louisville and has a Master’s of Public Health from the University of South Florida. Dr. Bada was the Principal Investigator of the Maternal Lifestyle Study at the University of Tennessee. This was a multicenter study that followed children with in utero exposure to opiates/cocaine from birth to age 15. Dr. Bada is a member of the scientific advisory committee for NIH/NICHD Neonatal Research Network. She has over 100 publications in the areas of newborn brain disorders, developmental follow-up and the effects of prenatal drug exposure on long-term child outcomes.

David Washington, LCSW-C, LCADC, MSW, is an advocate, trauma specialist, person in long-term recovery with a history of childhood experiences. He began is career of substance use disorder treatment in 1989. He currently works for the state of Maryland as a Trauma Specialist through the Office of Special Needs Populations. Prior to this he worked for Johns Hopkins Hospital Program for Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Mr. Washington received a post graduate certificate in trauma studies with Bessel van der Kolk, PhD. He has spoken on Capitol Hill, to the American Psychological Association, at the Gains Conference and as the lunch speaker at Gender Matters, Men Matters conference.

Joe Keil, DRE is a recently retired K9 officer who worked 27 years on the night shift. He is a Drug Recognition Expert Instructor who has represented the state of Wisconsin at several national conferences. Mr. Keil has trained thousands of law enforcement officials. He is currently an instructor for the Multijurisdictional Counter Drug Task Force for St Petersburg College instructing agents from the DEA, US Border Patrol, Chicago PD, NYPD as well as countless other agencies. Joe is the author of two books, When Just Say No Doesn’t Work and Operation RUSH (Recognizing and Understanding Substances on the Highways) which is available to law enforcement officials only.
