WASHINGTON, DC – OVER 20,000 parents and children flocked to the White House on Monday, for the annual Easter Egg Roll.  Hosted by President and Mrs. Donald Trump, the event was open to the public through a lottery system, where everyone signed up for tickets and hoped for a chance to have their names drawn for tickets to the free event.

Kelly and Susan Clark, of Front Royal, managed to secure four tickets and drove down to the District of Columbia Monday to visit some museums and take their boys, Connor, 11, and Mason, 5, to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for an afternoon of fun. The boys are the grandsons of Royal Examiner publisher Michael McCool and wife, Jane McCool.

Some of the festivities on the White House lawn included an area where children could make drawings to be sent to troops overseas.  D.C. United was on hand to practice soccer kicks, while others tossed beanbags and decorated cookies and visited with one of three Easter bunnies.  The 139th egg roll also featured military bands and the Martin Family Circus, as well as a reading nook where children could settle in for a story.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said 18,000 commemorative wooden eggs had been ordered from Wells Wood Turning, the Maine company that has been manufacturing them for years.  The eggs were distributed in several colors, including gold and a variety pastel colors.

The Clark boys each brought home a blue commemorative egg, something their mother, Susan, said they would treasure for years to come.
