A Uganda school construction update by Beth Waller

Greetings from Africa! The elementary school project that started in December as a small replacement of the “shack” of a school has turned into a 4 room schoolhouse that is now under roof as of this week!

I have been struggling more than I ever have to find the best photos and words to share with the people we are so thankful for, who follow my time with Light up Life and support the mission with their prayers, financial support and kind comments.

I just realized that the reason I’m paralyzed at making a post is because the moments I want you all to feel through my words/pictures are impossible to convey. There is no way to even begin to describe the feeling in my heart when I play and laugh with the children who used to wake up and walk to a small shack to learn, and now have a 4 room schoolhouse under roof.  But it’s not really about the building itself. It’s about the hope, love and gratitude that their community feels because strangers have cared enough to try to make a difference in their lives.

I feel so selfish as I type this because I get to be the one to come here and spend time with these amazing people (including the 9 person Light Up Life team that even had t-shirts made to reflect their thankfulness to Front Royal and WHAT MATTERS). I get to be the lucky one to see with my own eyes and humbly try to report about what LUL is doing, and showcase how thankful everyone is for the financial support provided by my Facebook friends the past 8 months. I am grateful to be the eyes and hands of you who are reading and who have cared enough to share their abundance with those who have no idea the abundance they are lacking.

Thank you to the people who have allowed me to sell their homes so that I can financially help these efforts (it is not my money that I donate but the money of countless others who have enabled me to funnel it here). Thank you for the people who have inspired me to fund-raise, who have given so generously themselves, and to the people who give with their words of encouragement.

Shown in this video is your first glimpse of photos—more to come! The smiles on these kid’s faces are priceless, but feel free to put a price tag on them—there’s much more to be done to finish the school, and we can’t do it without the funds to continue. GOD BLESS you all! Here is the link to our GoFundMe.
