Accusation of a Samuels Library Trustees Secret Meeting is a Hoax – And About Those Assets

Published

on

The bylaws of Samuels Public Library, prior to the most recent amendment, stated that, if the organization liquidated, all of its assets would go to Warren County and therefore be subject to the control of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, thus providing a financial incentive for the County’s unethical Board of Supervisors to try to put Samuels Library out of business.

The recent action of Samuels Library board to amend their bylaws to permit their assets to go to any 501(c)(3) organization removes that financial incentive. I applaud their action.

Not that the unethical Board of Supervisors cares, the assets of Samuels Library were not derived from Warren County taxpayer funding but instead from an accumulation and prudent financial management of private donations given to them. Predictably, the unethical Board of Supervisors is unhappy with the change. So sorry (not!).

As for the “secret meeting”, how could it have been secret? They met their legal obligation to advertise the meeting prior to the meeting being convened.  And, as with all Samuel’s board meetings, it was open to the public!  And, the content of that meeting was posted on the Samuels Library website.

Secret meeting?

The facts just don’t support that accusation! If there is any lack of transparency, it is with the unethical Board of Supervisors’ “secret” agenda to try to take control of Samuels Library.
