Using an Exfoliant to Care for Your Skin: Beneficial at Any Age

Published

on

As we get older, the skin’s natural renewal process slows down, which can leave the complexion looking dull or uneven. One simple way to refresh your skin is by adding gentle exfoliation to your skincare routine.

Exfoliating products help remove dead skin cells and impurities that accumulate on the skin’s surface, especially on the face. By clearing away this buildup, exfoliation can reveal smoother, brighter-looking skin and help your complexion appear more refreshed.

Don’t overdo it

While exfoliation can be beneficial, moderation is key. To avoid irritation or increased sensitivity, most experts recommend exfoliating no more than once or twice a week.

Your skin type may require even less frequent exfoliation. If you’re unsure what works best for you, a skincare professional or pharmacist can recommend products suited to your skin’s needs.

Follow up with moisturizer

Exfoliation should always be followed by a good moisturizer. Removing dead skin cells can temporarily leave the skin more vulnerable to dryness, so applying moisturizer helps restore hydration and support the skin’s protective barrier.

Don’t forget sunscreen

Because exfoliation can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, applying sunscreen before heading outdoors is highly recommended. This extra step helps protect your skin from UV damage and prevents irritation.

Choose the right product

If you have sensitive skin, certain exfoliants may be too harsh. Gentle formulations or chemical exfoliants designed for delicate skin may be a better option.

A visit to a pharmacy, dermatologist, or beauty salon can help you find the right product to keep your skin looking healthy and radiant, no matter your age.
