Blue Ridge Singers to Light Up the Shenandoah Valley with Lux Aurumque

Dr. Jeffrey Alban, Director of the Blue Ridge Singers, invites you to experience the luminous beauty of their 2024 Christmas concert series, Lux Aurumque (Golden Light). This year’s program, filled with both traditional and contemporary music, is sure to inspire and delight audiences in stunning venues across the Shenandoah Valley.

📅 Performance Schedule with Locations:

  • Friday, December 6, 2024, at 7:30 PM
    Front Royal Presbyterian Church
115 Luray Ave., Front Royal, VA
  • Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 3:00 PM
    Trinity Episcopal Church
9108 John S. Mosby Hwy., Upperville, VA
  • Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 3:00 PM
    First Baptist Church of Winchester
141 N. Washington St., Winchester, VA

A Musical Journey Through Time

This year’s program centers on Eric Whitacre’s ethereal Lux Aurumque, with its lush harmonies evoking the Impressionist movement. Works like Heinrich Schütz’s Baroque motet Odae Christus Natus Est, performed with period-appropriate accompaniment, including cello, violin, double bass, and the continuo organ, complement this.

For those craving variety, the program also features a jazzy rendition of The Holly and the Ivy, an African-American spiritual, and a festive Christmas Hoedown based on the Southern Harmony tune Brightest and Best of the Stars of the Morning.

Dr. Alban explained, “Whether you’re a choral music enthusiast or a first-time attendee, this program offers something for everyone. The music speaks for itself, and the stunning acoustics in each venue amplify its beauty.”

A Tradition of Community and Celebration

These free concerts are supported by a freewill offering and include opportunities to meet the performers. Receptions will follow the Front Royal and Winchester performances, while Upperville will feature post-concert caroling, dinner, and a fundraising auction hosted by Trinity Episcopal Church.

Dr. Alban added, “Every performance is unique, and we strive to make the music accessible and meaningful for everyone. Even if you don’t understand Latin or the intricacies of Baroque music, you’ll leave feeling uplifted.”
