Break Free Recovery Offers Hope, Healing, and Community Support in Front Royal
On Monday nights at 7 p.m., a warm and welcoming light shines from the doors of Love Revival Church on Chester Street. Inside, members of the Break Free Recovery Group gather—not just to talk about addiction but to build a community of healing, restoration, and unwavering faith.
Led by Zack and Patience Walls, Break Free is more than a recovery program. It’s a place where people facing addiction, codependency, or emotional wounds can come as they are, share their stories, and find support through prayer, testimony, and love.
“Addiction doesn’t have to be your burden to bear forever,” Zach said during a recent interview at the Royal Examiner studio. “Jesus wants to help you. And we’re here to walk with you through that journey.”
Zack speaks from personal experience. He knows the path of addiction all too well, having struggled with alcohol and drug use for much of his life before finding a new purpose through faith. “Two years ago, I was incarcerated. And that’s where I truly surrendered my life to Jesus,” he said. “Now I’m filled with the Holy Spirit and want to give back to my community.”
His wife, Patience, brings a powerful perspective from the other side of addiction. In a previous relationship, she lived through the pain of being a codependent partner—caring for children and holding a home together while her loved one battled addiction. She now helps others, especially women, break free from cycles of unhealthy relationships and emotional isolation.
“I feel called to help people through bad relationships and to learn how to be stronger parents or get themselves and their children into a better situation,” Patience said. “You don’t have to look or talk a certain way. Even if you’re still struggling, you’re welcome here.”
Come As You Are
A central theme of the Break Free Recovery Group is acceptance. “There’s no picture-perfect Christian,” Zack said. “We want people to know they don’t have to clean themselves up before they walk through the door. That’s what we’re here for.”
The group is open to anyone—those currently battling addiction, people in recovery, and even family members or friends who are affected by a loved one’s addiction.
“We know that addiction doesn’t just hurt the person using,” Zack said. “It impacts everyone around them. That’s why we welcome people from all walks of life. Whether you’re the one struggling or someone who loves them, there’s a place for you here.”
Every Monday, the evening begins with a free community meal at 6 p.m., followed by the recovery group session at 7. There’s also pizza during the session—as Zack said with a smile, “Nobody wants to listen for an hour on an empty stomach.”
More Than Recovery—It’s Revival
Hosted at Love Revival Church, Break Free is grounded in faith and love. The church is focused on “bringing heaven to Front Royal” through prayer, worship, and spirit-led community work. Its mission is based on the teachings of Ephesians 4 and the belief that signs, wonders, and miracles are still active and meaningful today.
“We’re Bible-based and Holy Spirit-led,” Zack explained. “That means we believe in the truth of God’s Word, and we also believe He’s still speaking today—through dreams, visions, and His people.”
This connection to faith gives Break Free a unique focus. It offers a safe space for emotional healing and encourages spiritual growth. Testimonies are shared not only as stories of struggle but as living proof that transformation is possible.
Small Gestures, Big Impact
The Walls family and other church members go beyond the Monday meetings to offer simple yet meaningful outreach in the community. One example is their “birthday cake ministry,” which provides cakes to families who can’t afford to celebrate a child’s birthday.
“It’s something many of us take for granted,” Patience said. “But there are families who can’t afford a cake. That small gesture shows them someone cares—and it can mean the world.”
These acts of kindness aren’t just about charity. They’re about planting seeds of hope and building relationships that can lead to lasting change.
A Memorial Day Invitation
This coming Monday, May 27, Break Free will host a Memorial Day cookout during their regular meeting time at 7 p.m. The event is open to anyone in the community, especially those curious about the group or seeking a new start.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to come out, enjoy some food, and meet others who’ve been where they are,” Zack said. “If you’re struggling or even thinking about making a change, join us.”
Finding the Courage to Begin
As the interview wrapped up, Zack and Patience returned to the heart of their message—hope.
“We’ve complicated our lives in so many ways,” Zack said. “Why not try a new path? You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to start. Give it to Jesus. That’s when things begin to change.”
Break Free Recovery Group meets every Monday at 7 p.m. at Love Revival Church, 119 Chester Street, Front Royal. A free meal is served beforehand at 6 p.m. All are welcome—no matter where you’re coming from or where you are on your journey.
