Mr. Eric Thompson (Calvin to some) was born on April 26, 1965, in Ketchum, Idaho, to the late Frank and Marcia (Anderson) Thompson. He made a humble, quiet, and humorous impact everywhere he lived.
Eric spent his childhood and teenage years in Granger, Utah. He was an active participant in the Boy Scouts of America and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which was an honor that he highly valued. He attended and graduated from Granger High School.
After graduating from high school, he attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. There he met his future wife, Lisa. They kept in touch while he was in Toronto, Canada, as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Eric’s dedication and love for Jesus Christ were shown in his actions and by his hands, being of few words.
After returning from Canada, he and Lisa dated, were engaged, and then married. Together they returned to Snow College, where he later graduated with an Associate’s degree in Applied Science in Electronic Technology. During this time, Eric also enlisted in the Air Force Reserve.
Eric returned to the Salt Lake Valley, living in Kearns, so that he could work as an implant maintenance technician at National Semiconductor Corporation. During Desert Storm, he was activated to assist with loading planes in his role with the 67 & 68 Aerial Port Squadron at Hill Air Force Base.
Eventually, they relocated for a job with Atmel Corporation to Colorado Springs, and within a few years, they moved south to Fountain, Colorado. Here, the family built their dream home; they happily opened this home to facilitate memories for neighbors, church members, coworkers, teenagers, and many more. His time in Colorado encompassed nearly twenty years.
Right as they became empty-nesters, Eric and Lisa relocated to Pleasant Grove, Utah, so that he could work at Fab 2 with IM Flash Technologies. This was his favorite place to work because of its incredible culture and desire to innovate.
One final move took Eric and Lisa to Linden, Virginia, so that he could work at Micron Technologies. Here, Eric found rest each day in the natural landscape.
Eric loved his wife Lisa and children with fierce devotion and treasured his family above all else. Eric loved deeply and openly, gathering friends like the wildflowers he treasured.
No matter the situation, no one could ever doubt his work ethic, stubbornness, and integrity. Eric’s time was cut short; so many of his dreams were left undone, and yet what he did was a culmination of his spirit and imagination.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, plus 11 months and 15 days, Lisa (Westenskow) Thompson; son, Sterling Thompson (Shae); three daughters, Erika Miller (Ben), Kristina Toncray (Tristan) and Natalie Ruby (Jarom); two brothers, Frank Thompson (Jeri) and Ronnie Thompson (Cathy); sister, Rose Mary (Thompson) Smith; twelve grandchildren and one grandchild on the way.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, James “Jimmy” Thompson, and brother-in-law, Rick Smith.
