Charles Sidney Smith, Jr. (1945 – 2024)
Charles Sidney Smith, Jr., 79, of Winchester, VA (formerly of Linden, VA), passed away on July 2, 2024, at Lynn Care in Front Royal, VA. He was born on May 25, 1945, in Orlando, FL, to Charles Sidney Smith Sr. and Courteney Page Waller Smith.

Charles, fondly known as Charley, graduated from Frances C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, VA, in 1964. He was an active member of The Loyal Order of the Moose and Moose Legion in Winchester, VA, and previously worked as a Rural Mail Carrier at the Post Office in Linden, VA.
Charley had a deep passion for Bluegrass music. He was an accomplished guitar player and singer, performing in various bands, including Whiskey Creek, Harmony Hollow, Sweetwater String Band, and the Charlotte and Charley Smith Duet. Beyond his musical talents, Charley was an avid hunter, fisherman, and woodworker. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of building a guitar and crafted several pieces of furniture. Charley also enjoyed watching Fox News Channel and engaging in political discussions.
Charley is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Swanson Smith; his sister, Courteney Page Smith Adams; two sons, Charles Sidney Smith III (Christina) and Jesse Lindsay Smith; and his daughter, Margaret Elise Smith Morrell. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, a great-grandson, two nephews, six great-nephews, three great-nieces, a great-great-nephew, and three great-great-nieces. Additionally, Charley had a step-daughter, a step-son, four step-grandsons, and a step-granddaughter.
Charley was a devoted husband and cherished his family deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 14th in Linden, VA.
In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charley’s memory to your local SPCA or Humane Society, organizations that were dear to his heart.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
