Samuels Public Library is preparing for one of its biggest events of the year as organizers finalize plans for the annual “A Taste for Books” fundraiser, scheduled for April 25 at 6 p.m.

During the South River District community forum at Skyline High School on March 15, Erin Rooney, executive director of Samuels Public Library, shared details about the upcoming event and the library’s many programs throughout the year.

Erin Rooney, executive director of Samuels Public Library, shares information about the upcoming “Taste for Books” fundraiser during the South River District community forum at Skyline High School on March 15.

This year marks the 13th annual Taste for Books, a community event widely known as one of Warren County’s most anticipated gatherings. The fundraiser has even received the Outstanding Program for Adults Award from the Virginia Public Library Directors Association.

The event typically draws more than 350 guests who come together to support the library while enjoying an evening of food, entertainment, and creative displays.

Each year, the library transforms its space with a unique theme. The 2026 theme, “Animal Kingdom,” will turn the library into a lively environment filled with imaginative decorations and themed tables inspired by the natural world.

Community businesses, organizations, and individuals participate by hosting themed tables, serving food samples, and showcasing their creativity while connecting with attendees.

The event also includes silent auction items, games, and prize drawings, making it both a fundraiser and a community celebration.

Rooney said organizers are still seeking table hosts and event sponsors, giving local businesses and nonprofits an opportunity to promote their organizations while supporting the library.

Funds raised through Taste for Books help support the library’s programs, resources, and services that are available to residents free of charge.

Samuels Public Library regularly hosts educational programs, cultural events, and activities for children, families, and adults.

One recent event was the library’s Scottish Cèilidh, a traditional dance celebration that drew about 150 participants. The event featured nationally recognized musician Seán Heely and his band, along with a dance caller who guided participants through traditional Scottish dance steps.

Earlier that evening, the library also hosted a family-friendly dance session for children, which drew about 60 participants who learned and enjoyed the same dance traditions.

Events like these highlight the library’s role as a community gathering place.

Samuels Public Library traces its roots to the Front Royal Library Society, chartered in 1799, and has evolved over the centuries into a modern community library serving residents throughout Warren County.

With support from donors, volunteers, and community partners, the library continues to expand its programs and services while maintaining its mission to promote learning, creativity, and community connection.

Tickets for “A Taste for Books: Animal Kingdom” are currently available, and organizers encourage residents to attend, host a table, or become a sponsor to help support the library’s ongoing work.
