County man arrested on felony count of aggravated sexual battery charges

Basil John Chuppa

Warren County, VA- On September 5, 2018 the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault that occurred on September 2, 2018.  The reported incident took place on Catlett Mountain Rd. in Warren County, involving Basil John Chuppa a 40 year old male resident of Warren County and a female victim.

The investigation led to the arrest of Basil John Chuppa for the following charges:

  • 18.2-51.6. Strangulation of another.
  • 18.2-67.3. Aggravated sexual battery.

Chuppa is currently being held without bond at RSW Regional Jail. Anyone with information about this or similar incidents are asked to contact Investigator Knowles at 540-635-7100 or invknowles@warrencountysheriff.org.

    I believe that it is not appropriate for news media to write incriminating articles (including a picture of the alleged perpetrator). Mr. Chuppa is innocent until the DA proves in a Court of Law before a Judge and a Jury that he did commit, beyond all reasonable doubt, the crime(s) for which is charged.

      Mr. Dameron, while you are entitled to your beliefs, the public is entitled to the information that Mr. Chuppa was arrested and charged. The information contained in the article was provided in a media release by the arresting entity and is a matter of public record. The Royal Examiner stands by its reporting of the facts. Once Mr. Chuppa’s case is adjudicated, that will be reported as well.
