A proclamation declaring December 5 “ Michael Ryan Ramey Day” in the Town of Front Royal was unanimously approved in front of emotional parents and step-parents at the November 26 Front Royal Town Council meeting.

December 5 was Ramey’s birthday. He died June 10 at age 7 in a tragic off-road vehicle accident. Present to accept memorial plaques were young Ramey’s parents, Marc Ramey and Ashley Woodall, step-parents Lacey Ramey and Joe Woodall, and siblings Seth Ramey and Jackson Woodall.

“Michael bounded through this life creating joy and leaving a trail of epic smiles wherever he landed … Michael had the heart, determination and bravery of the Superheroes he so admired; and …had great love and respect for the men and women in uniform, both law enforcement and firefighters,” the proclamation read. That love and respect for those in uniform came naturally to Michael, whose dad Marc is a town police officer and stepdad Joe, a volunteer firefighter.

The proclamation noted that a tree will be planted in Michael’s honor on December 8 at his school, Ressie Jeffries Elementary.

A June 12 post on the Front Royal Little League Facebook page acknowledged Michael’s past participation in the league and the organizational-wide “heartbreak” being felt at his untimely death.
