Foster Parents Needed Urgently

Published

on

Children’s Services of Virginia is facing an unprecedented demand for foster families. In April alone, the agency received 96 referrals for children in need of placements, marking an all-time high. By the end of May, the total number of referrals reached 394, compared to 310 in the same period last year. Over the past two years, the agency has dealt with more than 1,600 referrals, highlighting the increasing need for foster homes.

The goal is to keep children in or near their communities, but this is not always possible due to the high number of children entering foster care. Foster families are urgently needed for children of all ages, with a special emphasis on those willing to take in sibling groups and older youth.

As a private agency, Children’s Services of Virginia (CSV) offers personalized support to foster families and can place children outside their local areas if necessary. CSV provides free virtual information sessions where potential foster parents can learn about the process and steps involved in becoming a foster parent. Training sessions, also held virtually, are available throughout the year. These sessions use a trauma-informed approach and real-life scenarios to prepare families for future placements better.

Children who enter foster care have all faced some form of trauma. CSV aims to equip families with the tools to support these children effectively, ensuring both the child and the foster family can thrive.

CSV encourages individuals and families who are considering fostering to act now. Your support can make a profound difference in a child’s life.
