Front Royal architect Frederick S. (Fred) Andreae was recognized for four decades of dedicated community service at the Rotary Club of Front Royal’s weekly meeting August 30.
Club president Bret Hrbek presented the 11th annual Robert E. L. “Bob” Miller award to Andreae saying, “His impact on this community is immeasurable. He has been a generous and ardent supporter of this community and its well being, quietly championing so many causes. Fred and his wife, Christine, are an inspiration to everyone in this community, and he is certainly deserving of this honor.”
The award is named for Bob Miller, a Front Royal dentist and a 75-year member of the local club. Stanley said the Miller Award recipients, now and in the past, have “demonstrated a commitment of service and dedication to the community through their vocation, public service, philanthropy or civic service to make a lasting impression on the community.”
The Andreaes, married for 52 years, have been residents of Front Royal for the past 40 years. Fred Andreae has, during that time, been a member, often a founding member, of 16 civic organizations from Rotary to Red Cross; from Warren Memorial Hospital to Samuels Public Library, the Chamber of Commerce and United Way. He was founding member and chair of the Front Royal Board of Architectural Review; the Beautification Committee of Front Royal; the Shenandoah National Park Trust; and Blue Ridge chair of the Pennsylvania Racing Association, as well as several other clubs and boards.
In 2018, he was named Blue Ridge Arts Council Citizen of the Year.
“Many of the things he has supported have never been generally known,” Stanley said, adding, “The community is truly a better place through the life that Fred has lived.”
