Free Mental Wellness Awareness event at Skyline High School

WHAT MATTERS Warren – On Saturday, September 28th, from 1pm-5pm, the community is invited to a free “Mental Wellness Awareness Event” at Skyline High School. The concept for the program originated in the heart of sophomore Nevaeh Suite last year, “When kids are diagnosed with something, they feel like they’re alone and I want to remind them that there are people who care about them and will stand by their side whenever they need it,” she explained. Classmate Ethan Berry gladly partnered with her to make the event a reality because he’s passionate about “promoting positive self care to decrease the mental illness stigma.” This duo stands proudly in the face of mental health challenges and wants our community to join them in giving a sense of hope, belonging and security to all in need of mental wellness support.

Let’s show these inspiring teens that we, as a community, stand behind those willing to make a difference! Please support the event by attending or reaching out to their mentor from Skyline High Guidance Department, Cassandra Gahn, at cgahn@wcps.k12.va.us. Donations will be accepted, a 50/50 raffle, carnival games and food sales will also help raise funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), so that the pair can bring more mental health programs to the community. At the event, you can participate in complementary yoga from 2pm-3pm, listen to engaging speakers about mental health and enjoy fun games in the gym.

More information available on the Facebook Event Page.
