Front Royal Retired Teachers Association Earns State Recognition for Community Service

Published

on

The Front Royal Retired Teachers Association continues to prove that retirement is not the end of service, but a new chapter of it. The organization was recently recognized as the Most Active Unit in the State for Outstanding Service in the Community, an honor it has now received two years in a row for the 2023–24 and 2024–25 years.

Founded in 1968, the Front Royal Retired Teachers Association has grown from a small group of former educators into a highly respected nonprofit dedicated to service, scholarship, and continued community involvement. Membership is open to all retired educational professionals, including teachers, administrators, specialists, and support staff, who share a lasting commitment to education and service.

Members of the Front Royal Retired Teachers Association gather together, celebrating decades of dedication to education and community service after being named the Most Active Unit in the State for Outstanding Service for the second year in a row.

The association’s mission is to promote fellowship among retired educators, encourage meaningful community contributions, provide members with up-to-date retirement information, and support local students through scholarships. Those goals remain firmly at the center of the organization’s work today.

Currently, the association includes 66 members, many of whom remain actively engaged. In 2025 alone, 41 members contributed a remarkable 5,961 volunteer hours, serving 202 youth throughout the community. These hours include tutoring, mentoring, and participation in outreach initiatives that support students and families across Warren County.

Education remains a cornerstone of the group’s mission. Each year, the association awards two scholarships to graduating seniors at Skyline High School and Warren County High School, helping students take the next step toward higher education and future careers.

Beyond scholarships, the association provides financial assistance and hands-on support to numerous local organizations and causes. Contributions have benefited Reaching Out Now, Helping Hands, cancer research initiatives, school PTOs, Liam’s Place, Samuels Public Library, and the Phoenix Project. Members also organize school supply drives for county schools and provide Christmas gift cards to children in need, ensuring year-round support for families.

Fellowship and professional enrichment are also key parts of the association’s activities. Regular meetings feature guest speakers and informative programs, including presentations from Creekside Insurance and Edward Jones representatives on retirement and investment planning, as well as updates from the Front Royal town manager and the new Warren County Public Schools superintendent. These sessions help members stay informed and connected to the community they served throughout their careers.

For the Front Royal Retired Teachers Association, the recent state-level recognition reflects decades of dedication, compassion, and leadership. Their continued impact shows that a lifetime devoted to education remains a lifetime devoted to service—strengthening the community through experience, generosity, and unwavering commitment.
