Interesting Things to Know
Girl Scout Cookie Season Is Going to the Dogs in 2027
Girl Scout cookie season has long been a favorite tradition for families, but in 2027, even the family dog will have something to look forward to.
Girl Scouts of the USA is introducing two new products for the upcoming cookie season: a treat made especially for dogs and an allergy-friendly cookie designed for people who have difficulty enjoying traditional varieties.
The additions, announced September 8, will join familiar favorites such as Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs, bringing a new twist to one of the country’s best-known fundraising traditions.
A Girl Scout Cookie Just for Dogs
For the first time, the organization will offer a treat specifically developed for four-legged family members.
Called Patch Pals, the soft-baked dog cookies have a blueberry muffin flavor and were created in partnership with BARK, the pet company known for its dog toys, treats, and subscription boxes.
Each treat features one of four designs inspired by Girl Scout patches, connecting the cookies to the organization’s traditions.
The idea came from Girl Scouts who wanted their dogs to share in the excitement of cookie season.
Of course, Patch Pals are intended for dogs, not people. The familiar Thin Mints and Samoas will remain on the human side of the cookie lineup.
A New Cookie for People With Food Allergies
The second addition, Girl Scout Sparkables, addresses a different challenge.
For families managing food allergies, cookie season can sometimes mean watching others enjoy treats they cannot safely eat.
Sparkables are designed to change that.
Developed with Partake, a company specializing in allergy-friendly baked goods, the new cookies combine crunchy oatmeal, chocolate chips, and colorful sprinkles.
They are formulated to be gluten-free, vegan, and free of the nine major food allergens: wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, soy, fish, shellfish, and sesame.
According to Girl Scouts of the USA, the cookies are produced in a facility designed to avoid those allergens.
Families managing severe allergies should still review the product’s full ingredient and allergen information before purchasing.
The organization said the new variety reflects requests from Girl Scouts who wanted more customers to be able to participate in the annual tradition.
Both New Products Will Be Sold Online
Unlike traditional Girl Scout cookies, which are often sold through neighborhood booths, community events, and individual Scouts, Patch Pals and Sparkables will be available exclusively through online ordering for direct shipping.
Both products are scheduled to become available nationally on January 12, 2027, although some local cookie seasons may begin earlier.
The annual Girl Scout Cookie Program generally runs from January through April, with exact dates varying by region.
Customers can still support local Girl Scouts through cookie purchases.
The program helps Scouts develop skills in goal setting, decision-making, money management, customer service, and business practices.
Revenue from cookie sales stays within local Girl Scout councils and troops, supporting educational programs, camping, travel, community service, and other activities.
More Than Just Cookies
Girl Scouts have sold cookies to fund their activities for more than a century, with the tradition dating to 1917.
Over the years, the lineup has evolved to include new flavors and varieties while preserving many of the classics customers recognize.
The 2027 additions represent another change, expanding the tradition to include both people with dietary restrictions and household pets.
And while dogs won’t be setting up cookie booths or earning sales badges, they will finally have a Girl Scout treat of their own.
