Kathleen Frances Elar (1956 – 2026)

Kathleen Frances Elar, a devoted wife, loving mother, dedicated nurse, and tender caretaker of animals, passed away on September 29, 2026, after a long illness, with her devoted husband by her side.

Kathleen was born on November 6, 1956, in the Bronx, New York. She devoted much of her professional life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse in New York City until 1995 and later continued her nursing career with Inova Health until her retirement in 2004.

In December 1993, Kathleen married Anthony Elar Jr. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and their farm. Kathleen was a devoted wife to Anthony and a loving mother to their son, Anthony Elar III.

Life on the farm brought Kathleen great happiness. She had a special love for animals and cared for each of them with affection and tenderness. She even named the cows, making each one part of the family. Luckey held a special place in her heart. Kathleen bottle-fed Luckey as a calf, creating a special bond and many cherished memories.

Kathleen also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, creating things with the same patience and care she brought to so many parts of her life. She and Anthony shared a love of historical reenactments and enjoyed participating in them together.

Kathleen and Anthony were members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal, Virginia, where their faith was an important part of their lives.

A service honoring Kathleen’s life will be held at Maddox Funeral Home on October 18 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be private in Long Island, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly, Virginia.

Kathleen will be remembered for her devotion to her husband and son, her compassionate service as a nurse, her faith, and her deep love for the animals she cared for throughout her life. Her gentle and caring spirit touched her family, her patients, and all those fortunate enough to know her.
