Local Bell Ringer Kicks Off Holiday Cheer in Front Royal
As the holiday season approaches, the familiar sound of Salvation Army bells fills the air outside local stores. Von Himelricht, a seasoned volunteer bell ringer, is among the cheerful individuals spreading holiday spirit at the Walmart in Front Royal.
Himelricht shared his enthusiasm for the Salvation Army’s mission to “do the most good.” This year, bell ringers are working tirelessly to inspire the community’s generosity as they collect donations to support local families in need.
“It’s only the second day of the campaign,” Himelricht said, standing beside the iconic red kettle, “but people are already showing great support. The community here is very giving.”
The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is one of its most well-known initiatives. It provides critical funding for programs that serve those in need, from Christmas gifts for children to meals and emergency assistance. With Thanksgiving just around the corner and Christmas only weeks away, the organization is calling for more volunteers to keep the bells ringing and donations coming.
Himelricht, who volunteers in two-hour shifts, encouraged others to get involved. “It’s easy to sign up and a great way to give back during the holidays,” he said, noting that those interested can register at RegistertoRing.com
For Himelricht, volunteering is about more than just collecting funds. It’s about fostering a sense of goodwill and community connection during one of the busiest times of the year. “Let’s have everybody have a Merry Christmas,” he added with a warm smile.
The Salvation Army is also hosting community dinners and other holiday programs in Front Royal, ensuring that no one is left out of the holiday spirit. Whether through donations or volunteering, locals are encouraged to contribute to the cause and make this season a brighter one for all.
If you’d like to join the effort, visit the Salvation Army’s website or stop by one of their red kettles to volunteer or donate. With every bell ring, the community takes another step closer to making the holidays magical for everyone.
