Local vet hits Marine Marathon trail for fallen brothers and their families
Front Royal businessman and U.S. Marine Corps reservist Robert MacDougall was one of the hundreds of runners in the 41st USMC Marathon in Washington, D.C. last month, clocking in at an acceptable 3 hours 25 minutes; but more importantly raising $12,370 for The Travis Manion Foundation.
While not winning the marathon, MacDougall finished first in individual fundraising for “Team Travis & Brendan” in this, his ninth marathon, and fourth time running with his team.

Robert MacDougall runs for a cause in the annual U.S. Marine Marathon in Washington, D.C.
The Travis Manion Foundation is a military support organization that assists military veterans and families of the fallen.
“The marathon this year was similar to years past in that it was an incredibly inspiring day running through our nation’s capital on a gorgeous fall day (Oct. 30). Seeing the wounded veterans that competed … racing in the wheelchair division and running with artificial limbs…and all the runners that competed in honor of fallen service members make the day about so much more than running,” MacDougall said.
The former Marine Corps pilot is a co-chair of Front Royal’s Memorial Day ceremony, held annually at the Gazebo.
