Meet the girls… American Heritage Girls!

American Heritage Girls Troop VA2206 supports the Front Royal Pregnancy Center through service projects.

Front Royal, VA – Families have discovered a new extra-curricular organization for their daughters called American Heritage Girls (AHG). AHG is a faith-based character development program for girls, ages 5-18, dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country.

AHG Troop VA2206 is a new AHG Troop in Front Royal, VA. It is chartered at the Front Royal Church of the Brethren.

Founded in 1995 in Cincinnati, Ohio, AHG has grown from ten troops and 100 members to more than 49,000 members across 15 countries and in 50 states. AHG helps girls to know who they are and whose they are through service work, badge work, leadership opportunities and more.

With an emphasis on faith, service and fun, girls choose from more than 240 badges, participate in service projects, leadership opportunities and outdoor experiences. Troops are led by adult volunteers who facilitate the AHG program while encouraging girl leadership. Faith-based organizations like churches, schools and civic organizations charter AHG Troops to achieve their ministry goals for youth.

With a strong focus on serving in the community, the girls have recently created gift baskets for the Front Royal Pregnancy Center and baked cupcakes for all emergency services personnel in Warren County. They look forward to organizing a food drive for Thanksgiving baskets and serving Fox Trail Senior Living in December with a Christmas caroling night.

Additionally, the American Heritage Girls badge program provides a range of experiences and learning opportunities for the girls. The girls recently completed a survival search and rescue mission at Elizabeth Furnace Recreational Area, practiced social skills and etiquette at a tea party, danced nineteenth century reels with the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era dancers, and learned how to cook outdoors with a Dutch oven! This year, the girls will research different world cultures and organize an international food festival, plus study proper photography techniques and create a group photo showcase.

Troop VA2206 meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. For more information, or to schedule a visit to the troop, contact Abigail Griffeth, Troop Coordinator, at AHGTroopVA2206@gmail.com. You can also learn more online at AmericanHeritageGirls.org.
