Middletown Celebrates Fourth of July with Patriotic SAR Float and Festivities

Middletown, Virginia, saw a vibrant display of patriotism as the annual Fourth of July parade marched through town. The parade, featuring 95 entries, took a scenic route starting from Laurel Ridge Community College on the north side of town. Participants proceeded south down Main Street, turned west on 5th Street, and then went north on Church Street before circling back to the starting point. The festivities were enjoyed by numerous onlookers who lined both sides of the route, cheering and celebrating together.

One of the standout entries was the float presented by the Sgt Maj John Champe Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Chapter. Compatriot Warner Workman led the creation of the float, which beautifully depicted scenes from the Revolutionary War. It showcased era-specific flags, realistic reproductions of barrels and firearms (non-firing), and a replica of the Liberty Bell, which was rung continuously as the float moved along the route.

In addition to the float, the SAR chapter’s entry included a vehicle adorned with flags and accompanied by four marching guardsmen. These guardsmen carried the U.S. Flag, the Virginia Flag, and the chapter banner, proudly leading the SAR contingent. As the entry passed through the streets, compatriots led the spectators to cheer for the United States and wish everyone a Happy Fourth of July.

The marching guardsmen included Sean Carrigan, Chip Daniel, Allan Phillips, and Bryan Buck. Dale Corey, Phil Hunter, Brett Osborn, Jim Simmons, and Richard Tyler waved to the crowd on the float. They were joined by Daughters of the American Revolution members Michelle Phillips and Anne Simmons. Marc Robinson drove the lead vehicle, with Warner Workman steering the float.

Other notable participants in the parade included members of Honor Flight—Top of Virginia, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. Each group added its unique touch to the celebration, reflecting the community’s deep respect and gratitude for those who have served the country.

The parade celebrated Independence Day and fostered a sense of unity and pride among the community members. With its colorful displays, historical reenactments, and spirited participants, the event was memorable for all who attended. Families, friends, and neighbors came together to honor the nation’s history and celebrate the freedoms that define the American spirit. The Fourth of July parade in Middletown is a testament to the community’s dedication to preserving and celebrating the nation’s heritage.
