Robert (Bob) Randolph Athey, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went to be with the Lord on November 18, 2024. He was born in Bayard, VA, on June 12, 1938, the son of the late Carey G. and Rebecca Athey.

Robert “Bob” Randolph Athey

Bob graduated from Warren County High School in 1956. A proud veteran who served in the United States Army as a Private First Class earned the Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship badges. He was a dedicated member of Winchester Church of God and LifePoint Church and a well-respected member of the Front Royal community, where he owned and operated Athey Insurance Services for many years.

In his younger years, Bob was an accomplished musician with a passion for music. He played in a local band, The Country Five, during the 1970s, sharing his love for country music and entertaining many in the community. Bob also had a deep love for his country, a passion for the outdoors, and a heart full of love for his family. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and working on his vehicles.

Whether spending time with his family or offering a helping hand to a friend, Bob’s joy for life and dedication to those he loved was evident in all he did. Bob’s generosity, kindness, and commitment to his community left a lasting impact, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara L. Athey; his children, Robert R. Athey, Jr. (Cyndi) of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, Michelle Athey Davis (Larry) of Front Royal, and Renee D. Athey of Front Royal; his ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and his sisters Loretta Bowen of Mooresville, North Carolina and his twin sister, Roberta Greene, of Wilmington, North Carolina. His sisters Dorothy Nance and Helen Jenkins and brothers Jack and Virgil Athey preceded him in death.

A celebration of life service for Bob will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2024, at LifePoint Church, 1111 N. Shenandoah Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.  The family invites all who knew and loved Bob to join them in remembering his life and faith. We take comfort in knowing Bob is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father, where he will forever be at peace.

Stover Funeral Home and Crematory, Strasburg, VA, is honored to serve the Athey family.
