FRONT ROYAL – On Friday, May 25, at its regular meeting, the Rotary Club of Front Royal will make its annual scholarship awards to one Skyline High School student and three Warren County High School students.

Two Warren County seniors, Macie Clerkley and Bridgette Murphy, each will receive a $4,000 scholarship to help further their college education, Macie at the University of Virginia, and Bridgette at Shenandoah University.

Macie, the daughter of Maceo Clerkley of Maryland and Valerie Stroud of Front Royal, will major in Anthropology and Political Science. In her interview with the Rotary Scholarship Committee, she stated she is interested in public policy and civil rights law.

A Front Royal resident, she was the Drum Major for the Warren County High School Marching Wildcats and active in the Rotary Interact Club, and other organizations. Her nominator described her as a “born leader”.

Bridgette, daughter of Kim Green and Duane Murphy of Front Royal, plans to attend the Nursing Program at Shenandoah University. She has earned her CNA and loves working with the elderly. Volunteering is very important to her and her future. She has been involved in soccer, clubs, and many school activities.

Her nominator states that she is enthusiastic, conscientious, and inspires those around her.

Macie and Bridgette were among seven students interviewed by Rotary scholarship committee.

This year the Rotary Club of Front Royal is also awarding a total of $5,000 to 2 students ($2,500 each) going into technical careers.

Dominic R. Garnett, the son of Audrey and Ronald Garnett of Front Royal, will receive an advanced diploma from Warren County High School. He has received multiple national certifications and plans to enter the High Performance Automotive program at the Universal Technical Institute in Exton, Pennsylvania.

Alexia M. Maynard, daughter of Carol Jones and William Maynard of Strasburg, will graduate from Skyline High School with an advanced diploma. She is an honors student and has completed courses at the Blue Ridge Technical Center in the Automotive Technology program. She plans to attend Lord Fairfax Community College in the Cybersecurity program and then go on to George Mason University.

Fifty-eight students from both public and private schools have been honored with scholarships from the Rotary Club of Front Royal over the past 20 years, totaling over $135,000 awarded.

Funding to support the scholarship awards is generated through the Club’s annual golf tournament and its generous sponsors. This year the Rotary Golf Tournament will be held at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club on Thursday June 14th, 2018.
