South Warren Ruritan Club Gears Up for Annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale

Bright blooms, hanging baskets, and a spirit of giving—spring is in full swing, and so is the South Warren Ruritan Club, preparing for its annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale on Saturday, May 10, at Ramsey’s Hardware parking lot.

This popular event has become a seasonal tradition, bringing high-quality flowers and a whole lot of community support to Warren County. According to club members Randy Clark and Rick Logan, who recently stopped by the Royal Examiner studio, the sale has been going strong for at least a decade—and the flowers sell fast.

“We’ve had a lot of people say these are the nicest hanging baskets they’ve ever seen,” said Logan. “They’re fresh, healthy, and just beautiful.”

The club will offer two sizes of hanging baskets: 10-inch and 13-inch, each filled with vibrant blooms suitable for full sun or partial shade. While the final varieties are still being confirmed, past years have included favorites like begonias and New Guinea impatiens for those looking to decorate shady porches.

The flowers come from a local greenhouse in Singers Glen, ensuring freshness and quality. “They’re delivered that morning,” Clark explained. “You’re not getting something that’s been sitting around in a truck.”

Prices will range from $30–$35 for the 10-inch baskets and $45–$50 for the 13-inch size, offering top-notch plants at fair prices—all while supporting the local community.

More Than Just Flowers

The South Warren Ruritan Club is a small but hardworking group that pours every dollar raised into helping others. Proceeds from the flower sale go directly to local nonprofits and community service programs.

Among the groups supported are the Special Olympics, House of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Reaching Out Now, Blue Ridge Opportunities, and the HARTS thermal shelter. The club also participates in the Dinner Together meal program, preparing and delivering meals to residents in need.

“The nice thing about Ruritan is that every dollar we raise stays local,” said Logan. “We’re here to help our neighbors.”

Just this past year, the club’s popular spaghetti dinner raised $6,000, which was awarded as three $2,000 scholarships to local students. “It really makes a difference for a young person heading off to college,” Clark said.

Come Early, Stay Involved

The flower sale begins around 9:00 a.m. on May 10 and will run until the baskets are sold out. With high demand and limited supply, locals are encouraged to arrive early. “Sometimes people are picking baskets right off the truck,” joked Logan.

The location at Ramsey’s Hardware is a familiar and visible spot, and the club thanked Lee Bowen, the store’s owner, for his ongoing support over the years.

In addition to shopping, residents are invited to lend a hand. Volunteers are always welcome to help unload flowers or assist with the event—even if they aren’t club members.

“We’ve had folks who aren’t members come out and help year after year,” said Clark. “And we’d love to have more people join us.”

Open to All

The South Warren Ruritan Club is actively seeking new members. While the name includes “South Warren,” membership is open to anyone in the area—including residents of Front Royal and nearby communities like Strasburg.

If you’re interested in helping with service projects, supporting local causes, or just want to make a difference, the club offers a great place to start. As Clark put it, “If you like working in the garden and want to do something meaningful for your community, come meet us on May 10.”

For more information or to get involved, visit the club’s Facebook page or stop by the flower sale and say hello. It’s a perfect chance to pick up a gift for Mother’s Day and plant some good in the community at the same time.
