Thank You Letter to the Samuels Library Board of Trustees
After almost 50 years of partnering with the Warren County Board of Supervisors (BOS) on library funding, receiving the top rating on all audits, and operating for 3 years with no-growth budgets, it must have come as a surprise to be accused of financial mismanagement.
After 10 years of Warren County providing maintenance on a library building they own, it must have come as a surprise to have the building maintenance cut off with no notice. (A tactic that slum lords use to evict tenants)
After repeatedly asking the BOS to directly communicate, coordinate and cooperate in good faith for the benefit of the partnership, it must have come as a surprise to learn that the BOS (with the exception of Ms. Cullers) do not value the partnership. (The BOS called you a vendor, which they can turn off as easy as canceling NETFLIX)
What is no longer a surprise is that the Samuels library public/private partnership, which has given us the Virginia library of the year, is threatened with extinction. You know how important the partnership is to having a world-class library. The BOS is prepared to throw away almost 50 years of partnership success, which will certainly have a negative impact on the quality of our library.
A lie will race halfway around the world before the truth can even lace up its shoes. Thank you for lacing up your shoes and defending your role in the Samuels Library Public/Private Partnership.
