The Cracked Acorn
The Cracked Acorn: Happy
Are you happy? If you are then it means that you have a feeling of pleasure and contentment…so the dictionary explains it.
Maybe, you are not sure about ‘happy’, then you should go outside and watch little children at play, trying out the swings and slides on the play ground. They can’t explain why they are happy, for the moment it is a gift from God and could be lost as an adult.
I am not far from Sperryville , Va. at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains. After a heavy rain, I have been known to drive there and park beside the stream from the mountains; it makes the ‘music’ of water crashing against the rocks and saying ” get out of my way;” I find the stream happy at its work.
The town’s 7-11 Store cleark told me one morning that I was a happy person, and he asked me if I wanted to be more happy, I said, “No!” He went on to say that he could make me happy beyond my wildest dreams, something that I could not imagaine. I could have replied in a few words of Arabic, but instead I smiled and left the store.
Bhutan is suppose to be the happiest nation on earth, but lately, it lost a few points as being ‘happy.’ Civilzation is creeping in and government rears its ugly head; people are running for office and making lots of promises. (Wonder where that idea came from, surely not the U.S. of A. via satellite television.)
There was a time when we visited Gloria’s father in Albany, N.Y. Come Sunday, there was a chance to visit the King Street Church of Christ. There was a lady there that would come around and give you a clinging hug while talking to you and pinch the cheeks of our young sons. It was said that she did this on the town sidewalks and had been asked not to do it any more, but why, she was just a happy person! Conclusion: There are people who do not want happiness invading their personal space.
“I was happy to say a prayer for you(insert name) today and know that God must have heard. I felt the answer in my heart, although He spoke no word. I didn’t ask for wealth or fame; I knew you wouldn’t mind. I asked HIm to send treasure of a far more lasting kind. I asked that He’d be near you at the start of each new day and to grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you, in all things great and small, But it was the loving care, I prayed for most of all.” (anon)
In most hymnals..O HAPPY DAY…When Jesus washed my sins away, He taught me how to watch and pray and live rejoicing every day…O HAPPY DAY, when Jesus washed my sins away! (Phillip Doddridge, 1755)
