Taste for Books: Coming Home – Saturday, April 14th

Samuels Library’s annual fundraiser “Taste for Books” is coming on April 14th. The theme this year is “Coming Home.” Reminisce with friends and look back at old photos while celebrating all the things that make Front Royal / Warren County and surrounding places where we live so special. The event will have tastes of Virginia style down-home cooking, beers and wine.

The silent auction offers some really terrific choices including a 3-night stay at the Greenbrier, Limousine services, a wine tasting package and more.

They’re also playing a game called “Where’s Sammy.” Our portrait of Bernard Samuels the Library’s founder has gone on vacation and we hear he’s been seen around town. How well do you know your town? Can you guess where he’s been? He’ll be ‘Coming Home’ on April 14th!

You can even come in costume–the choice is wide open so pick your favorite time period and join in the fun!

The event is from 6:00 – 8:30 pm and Tickets are on sale now!! Online at tasteforbooks.net, at the Library or at the Visitor Center. $50 each or buy 4 and get one free! Bring your friends for the ‘best party in town’ and support our wonderful library.

Children’s area in memory of John Wimmer

In 2017 Joyce Jenkins-Wimmer generously donated fifteen thousand dollars to the Children’s department of Samuels Public Library. She loved the idea of renovating the well-loved play area in use since 2009.

Joyce donated these funds in memory of her late husband John S. Wimmer. John S. Wimmer enjoyed feeding the deer that came into their yard. In honor of that the area has a beautiful deer peeking out from behind a tree. This image greets children when they first walk into the area.

Children are often found playing in the room both before and after one of the library’s many programs. Parents that visit the “new” play area often comment on how special the environment is. It’s remarkable to see the joyous smiles on the faces of all the children that explore and make memories in the delightful space. The library and community will be grateful for Mrs. Jenkins-Wimmer’s generosity for years to come.

Recently the Friends of Samuels Public Library donated an additional two-thousand dollars in order to add more toys and furnishings to our beloved space!

Thanks to all who serve the community through volunteering and working at our fabulous local library!
