Two Killed in Fiery I-81 Crash Near Exit 310 in Frederick County
Two people were killed Thursday night in a fiery crash on Interstate 81 near Exit 310 in Frederick County after a tractor-trailer crossed the median and struck a northbound truck carrying oxygen tanks, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash happened at about 8:17 p.m. Sept. 10 on I-81 northbound.

State police said the preliminary investigation indicates a passenger car was attempting to enter I-81 southbound from an on-ramp and failed to yield to traffic. A tractor-trailer traveling southbound then struck the car.
After that collision, the tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the interstate, crossed through the median, and struck a northbound truck carrying oxygen tanks.
The impact sparked a fire, causing the oxygen tanks to explode.
The explosions damaged a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office vehicle as well as vehicles parked in a lot east of the interstate.
The tractor-trailer driver died at the scene.
The driver of the truck carrying the oxygen tanks suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where the driver later died.
The passenger car driver was not injured.
State police said charges are pending.
A deputy whose patrol vehicle was damaged was not injured.
Virginia State Police are still investigating the crash.
