Virginia Hills Church Hosts Egg-citing Community Easter Event This Saturday

Families across the community are invited to hop on over to Virginia Hills Church in Rockland this Saturday, April 12, for a free Easter Egg Hunt packed with fun, food, and over 7,000 colorful surprises.

The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., promises to be more than just an Easter egg hunt. Organized with care and excitement by the Virginia Hills congregation, the celebration is expected to draw hundreds of attendees just like last year—only this time, even more is in store.

“We’ve been planning this for a year,” said Cindy DuVall, Director of Kid’s Ministry at Virginia Hills Church. “Our church family has donated more than 7,000 plastic eggs, each filled with candy and toys. We just want to bless our community with a day full of fun.”

Last year’s event saw more than 400 people gather for the festivities, which included not just eggs but petting zoos, bounce houses, and appearances from local fire trucks and police vehicles. The Easter Bunny was also on site for photos and hugs, much to the delight of children and parents alike.

This year, organizers are building on that success with even more attractions. “We’ll have bounce houses for toddlers and older kids, hot dogs, popcorn, and separate egg hunts for different age groups so everyone can enjoy safely,” Duvall said. Children five and under will have their own egg hunt area, while older kids will compete in a separate field. This thoughtful approach helps ensure everyone, from the tiniest egg-hunters to the more competitive elementary-aged pros, has a fair shot.

The church, located at 737 Rockland Road, has become known for its family-centered community events. Despite ongoing road construction in the area, clear detour signs will guide visitors directly to the church campus. “If you see all the lanes merging into one, you know you’re close,” Duvall joked. “VDOT’s been great about keeping us accessible.”

Beyond this weekend’s celebration, Virginia Hills Church offers a variety of youth and family programs throughout the year. Their summer Vacation Bible School (VBS), happening the week of June 16, typically hosts around 150 kids for a week of Bible-based learning and fun. “It’s a great time for kids, and a great break for parents too,” said Duvall, giving a nod to VBS Director Whitney, who leads the program each year.

Sunday services at Virginia Hills include kids’ ministry for ages birth through fifth grade, with services at both 9:30 and 11 a.m. A special Summer Bash following VBS is also in the works, adding to the lineup of events that make the church a central part of family life in the Rockland area.

This weekend, Virginia Hills Church offers the perfect mix of springtime fun, warm community spirit, and of course, candy-filled eggs.

“We love to serve our community,” said Duvall. “We’re excited to see everyone come out and have a great time.”

So whether you’re a parent looking to keep the kids busy or a neighbor just wanting to soak up some spring sunshine, head over to Virginia Hills Church this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a fun-filled morning you won’t want to miss.
