Virginia voters to choose candidates in primary today

Local voters – along with citizens across the Commonwealth –have begun casting their votes in the state’s primary contests for governor. Polls in Tuesday’s primary races opened at 6 a.m. and are open until 7 p.m.
Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is running as a governor who says he would work with state Republicans while former U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello has the support of national Democrats such as Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. He has pledged to stand up to President Trump and what he says are business interests dominating state politics.
On the Republican side, front-runner Ed Gillespie is vying against Corey Stewart and state Sen. Frank Wagne
Virginia voters on Tuesday will pick parties’ nominees for governor, lieutenant governor and scores of House of Delegates races, as well as local contests in some locations.
