Warren County High School FCCLA Leads the Charge in Global Giving with Innovative Shoe Drive
In an inspiring display of community service and global outreach, students from Warren County High School, under the guidance of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), have embarked on a unique fundraising initiative aimed at making a significant impact both locally and internationally.
Sue Kelly, a teacher at Warren County High School and advisor for the FCCLA, alongside Ava Strickler, a dedicated student and the club’s president, recently shared details of their international fundraising program during an interview at the Royal Examiner’s studio.
The program focuses on collecting shoes to be donated to third-world countries, such as Haiti, providing essential support to communities in need. This initiative helps those abroad and aids local students facing health challenges by raising funds to assist with their medical expenses.
A Global Effort with Local Impact
The shoe drive encourages the community to donate gently used shoes, which will then be sent to places like Haiti to support micro-enterprises. This approach supplies those in need with vital footwear and fosters self-sufficiency and job creation in impoverished communities.
“We’re shooting for 100 bags, which is about 2,500 pairs of shoes,” explained Kelly, highlighting the project’s ambitious goal. With drop-off locations across the county and special drive-by events planned, the FCCLA aims to make it easy for the community to contribute to this noble cause.
Why Shoes?
Shoes are a basic necessity often taken for granted. This drive provides a second life for shoes that are no longer in use, turning potential waste into a resource that empowers communities and supports economic development in third-world countries.
The FCCLA’s Mission
Beyond the shoe drive, the FCCLA at Warren County High School actively engages in various projects that benefit both the school and the wider community. From working with special education classes to organizing concession stands at football games, the club’s efforts are a testament to the power of youth leadership and community service.
How You Can Help
The FCCLA calls on the community to participate in this meaningful cause by donating shoes at designated drop-off locations across the county, including schools, Fitness Evolution, C&C Frozen Treats, and Famous Footwear. This effort is a unique opportunity for the community to declutter their homes while supporting both local students and global entrepreneurship.
