Warren County High School NHS Leads Canned Food Drive with Record-Breaking Donation

The spirit of giving was alive and well at Warren County High School this fall as students rallied together for the National Honor Society’s annual Homecoming Canned Food Drive. With over 2,800 canned goods collected, the 2025 drive was one of the most successful in recent memory—thanks in large part to an impressive effort from the senior class.

Led by this year’s National Honor Society chapter officers—President Sidney Engelking, Vice President Sadie Rosner, Secretary Lisa Hoelsher, Treasurer Lauren Foltz, and Historian Kaydence Campbell—the organization mobilized students across all grade levels. But it was the seniors who truly stepped up, donating approximately 2,400 cans on their own.

NHS members spent the day boxing up the donations to prepare them for delivery to the Salvation Army. These food items will soon be on their way to families in need throughout the local community.

“We’re so proud of everyone who participated,” said NHS Advisor Jyoti Vasishta. “The students didn’t just meet expectations—they blew them away. This is exactly the kind of leadership and service that the NHS is all about.”

The canned food drive has long been a tradition during Homecoming Week, but this year’s totals exceeded past efforts by a wide margin. Students gathered donations from family, neighbors, and local businesses to make sure shelves at the Salvation Army would be stocked heading into the holiday season.

While the event was led by NHS members, it became a true school-wide initiative, with students from every grade contributing. From organizing collection points to managing the logistics of sorting and packing the items, National Honor Society members worked together to make the process smooth and impactful.

“It really showed what we can do when we come together,” one student said while helping load boxes onto the truck.

The National Honor Society at Warren County High School continues to uphold its mission of scholarship, leadership, service, and character—qualities clearly demonstrated in this record-breaking community effort.

With the food now on its way to families in need, NHS members are already thinking ahead to future service projects. But for now, they’re taking a well-earned moment to celebrate a job well done.
