Warren County Izaak Walton League Cleans Up Browntown Road—Again
While most people were relaxing and enjoying their Sunday afternoon on July 20, nine members of the Warren County Izaak Walton League chapter were pulling trash off Browntown Road ahead of the VDOT grass cutting crew.
In total, the group collected 21 bags of trash. They also removed car parts, a solar panel, and even a five-dollar bill. This road cleanup is part of a regular effort the group takes on four times each year.
One of the most important cleanups of the year happens just before the BCCA Redbud Festival, helping to prepare the area for one of the community’s most well-loved events.
This month’s cleanup included a little extra incentive for volunteers: pizza and chocolate chip cookies.
The Browntown community is encouraged to assist with future efforts. According to the chapter, “You don’t even have to be an IWL member” to join in.
The next scheduled cleanup is planned for September 14.
The Warren County Izaak Walton League chapter is made up of 250 members and manages a 155-acre park on Gooney Manor Loop. The land is under a conservation easement, helping protect it for future generations.
The chapter welcomes and encourages new members. For more information about the group’s work or to find out how to get involved, visit www.wacovaikes.org or contact anti-litter coordinator Bill Lacy at Blacy358@gmail.com.
