Warren County High School Prepares for an Exciting Back-to-School Community Day

As summer draws to a close, Warren County High School is gearing up for a vibrant and engaging Community Day on August 10th. Principal Ken Knesh and Nora McMackin shared exciting details about the upcoming event during their recent visit to the Royal Examiner studio.

Principal Knesh expressed the school’s enthusiasm, noting, “Last year, we had our first annual Warren County Public Schools Community Day, and it was such a success that we’re thrilled to make it an annual tradition.”

The event will be on August 10, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the school grounds. It promises a variety of activities for all ages. Local businesses, organizations, and churches are invited to set up tables at no cost, offering a chance to share information and give away items like book bags and pencils. “It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together before the school year starts,” said Principal Kenesh.

A highlight of this year’s Community Day is the addition of free haircuts provided by Blake and Company. Attendees can enjoy the festivities and get a fresh haircut all in one place. Another exciting addition is the car show sponsored by the Auto Care Clinic, which will attract car enthusiasts from around the area.

Kids will have plenty to do with a special Kid Zone featuring a dunk tank, bounce house, and obstacle course. Principal Knesh humorously added, “I’ll be in the dunk tank along with Dr. Ballenger, our football coach, and even the mayor. It’s all in good fun and for a great cause.”

A petting zoo will be available for animal lovers, and various demonstrations, including Taekwondo, Zumba, and yoga, will provide interactive entertainment. McMackin encouraged everyone to try something new, saying, “Maybe you’ve always wanted to try a Zumba class. Come see what it’s all about!”

Food trucks will be present to keep everyone fueled throughout the day, and a DJ will provide music to keep the atmosphere lively. The National Guard will set up their popular climbing wall, and children will have the chance to ride a school bus to help ease any first-day jitters.

In addition to the fun and games, Community Day will also feature practical services like bike and helmet safety checks, fingerprinting, and self-defense demonstrations by local police.

Warren County High School’s theater club will host a yard sale, with all proceeds supporting the school’s theater program. Principal Knesh invited the community to donate items for the sale, assuring that unsold items would be donated to local charities like the SPCA and Blue Ridge House.

The event celebrates the start of a new school year and highlights the hard work and achievements of the school’s various programs.

Principal Knesh and McMackin emphasized the importance of community involvement in the school’s success. With the start of the football season, homecoming, and various theater and music events on the horizon, there’s much to look forward to in the upcoming school year.

McMackin noted, “Our students and staff work incredibly hard, and we want to invite the community to be part of our journey. From our award-winning marching band to our theater performances, there’s always something exciting happening at Warren County High.”

The school community eagerly welcomes everyone to the Community Day event and looks forward to a fun, food, and fellowship-filled day. “We hope to see everyone there,” Principal Knesh concluded.
