Wesley Smedley, 25, of Flint Hill, left this world Friday, September 13, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with mental health.

Wesley was born August 22, 1999, to Melissa “Missy” Showers Smedley and John “JH” Smedley Jr.

Wesley graduated from Skyline High School in 2016 and joined the United States Army. He enjoyed nature, and some of his favorite things included rock balancing and hiking. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and piano. He loved to talk and would start a conversation with anyone about almost anything.

He was an old soul, wise beyond his years. He was known to some as Welsey “The Turtle Hermit” Smedley. He named himself after his favorite character, Master Roshi, from Dragon Ball. He loved his cat, Marshmallow; he adored his nieces Adabelle, Marceline, and his nephew Perseus. He liked playing video games and hanging out with his best friends, Matthew Hayes and Storm Lockhart. He was smart, determined, fearless, kind, caring, and compassionate. Above all else, he was loved.

In addition to his parents, Missy and JH, Wesley is survived by his sister, Diane Smedley; his half-sisters, Alyssa Carnes, Deadra Baggarly, and Brittney Orndorff; eight nieces, three nephews, his paternal grandmother, Doris Smedley, and numerous aunts, uncles and other family members who loved him beyond measure.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Diane Palmer, and his paternal grandfather, John Smedley Sr.

“Show kindness, but most importantly, listen and hear without judgment,” “Be the light in someone’s darkness,” and “Wesley’s death will not be in vain!”
