Valley Health Hospitals Earn Prestigious ‘A’ Grades for Patient Safety
Warren Memorial Hospital (WMH) and Winchester Medical Center (WMC), two key acute care facilities under Valley Health, have again demonstrated their commitment to patient safety by earning top honors from The Leapfrog Group. Both hospitals received “A” grades in the Fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grades, continuing a streak of excellence.
Winchester Medical Center has achieved its 10th consecutive “A” grade since Spring 2020, while Warren Memorial Hospital has earned its 6th straight “A” since Spring 2022. These distinctions place the hospitals among a select few in Virginia. WMC is among only 13 hospitals to secure ten consecutive “A” grades, and WMH is among 15 hospitals to maintain six consecutive “A” ratings.
“Patient safety is our top priority,” said Tonya Smith, president of Winchester Medical Center and senior vice president of acute care for Valley Health. “Our community and our patients deserve the very best, and our care team’s resolute commitment to patient safety makes that possible.”
The Leapfrog Safety Grade: A Benchmark for Excellence
The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization, evaluates nearly 3,000 general acute care hospitals twice annually. Grades are based on over 30 patient safety measures, including systems to prevent errors, infections, and accidents. The program aims to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care, offering free, peer-reviewed, and publicly accessible information.
“Receiving our sixth straight ‘A’ grade for patient safety is a source of great pride for our entire care team,” said Warren Memorial Hospital Administrator Jennifer Coello. “It reflects our unwavering commitment to every patient who comes through our doors.”
The latest Leapfrog report highlights disparities in safety performance nationwide, emphasizing the importance of these rankings in guiding patients toward the safest care options.
