Skyline High School is celebrating a remarkable achievement by senior Addison Lewallen, who has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 Harry F. Byrd Jr. Leadership Award. This honor highlights Addison’s exceptional academic, music, and leadership contributions, showcasing her as a shining example of the Skyline Hawks spirit.

Addison Lewallen

An accomplished musician, Addison has made an indelible mark on the school’s band program. Her accolades include serving as the principal piccolo player in the All-District Band, earning a place in the Virginia Tech Honor Band, and receiving Skyline’s Music Excellence Award. She has also played an integral role as Director’s Assistant and Student Director. Addison’s versatility as a performer extends to the marching band, concert band, jazz band, indoor percussion ensemble, and pit orchestra for school productions like Chicago. Beyond Skyline’s walls, she shares her talents with the local community band and has accompanied the school choir.

Her leadership and dedication extend well beyond music. A National Honor Society member, Addison maintains an impressive 4.2 GPA while excelling in Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses. These efforts will allow her to graduate with an Advanced Studies Diploma and an Associate Degree from Laurel Ridge Community College by May 2025.

Faculty and staff describe Addison as kind-hearted, thoughtful, and deeply committed to serving others. Her intelligence, creativity, and willingness to lead have earned her respect across the Skyline community.

The Harry F. Byrd Jr. Leadership Award honors Virginia’s top high school students who demonstrate character, leadership, duty, and academic excellence. Addison’s nomination places her among the elite student leaders of Virginia’s 6th Congressional District, where she will compete for the district-wide honor and a $25,000 scholarship.

As Addison plans to pursue a career in music education, her nomination for this prestigious award is a testament to her outstanding achievements and dedication to her community. Skyline High School is proud to support her on this journey and celebrates her contributions to the school and beyond.
