Helen I. Wines Foster, 86, of Chester Gap, was called home on May 26, 2025.

Helen was born in 1938 to Elias and Mamie Wines.

She was a member of Flint Hill Pentecostal Church. She was a homemaker who loved her children immensely. She babysat more than 50 children, whom she enjoyed showering with love.

Helen is survived by her children, Glenn Mahoney, Randolph Carter, John Foster, Terry Foster, Teresa Judd, Debbie Brogan, Nita Shafer, and Vickie Campbell; one brother, Ray Wines; three sisters, Lou Williams, Virgie Ubben, and Mae Oliver; a special son-in-law, Tom Shafer; a daughter-in-law, Karen Foster, whom she thought of as her own; and a special grandson, Matthew Shafer.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, husbands Charles Mahoney, Garlen “Shorty” Seal, and Paul Foster Sr.; children Richie Mahoney, Randolph Mahoney, Paul Foster Jr., Darlene Strong, and Patricia Miner; and siblings Ford Lee Haun, Guy Robinson, Roger Haun, Truin Wines, Wally Wines, Daisy Jones, Marlen Wines, Mazie Williams, and Hazel Williams.

Tom Shafer, Mason Frazier, John Paul Frazier, Matthew Shafer, Melvin Frazier Jr., and Randolph Carter will be pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Brown, Sandra Brown, Larry Williams, and Roger Robinson.

A funeral service will be held at Maddox Funeral Home on Monday, June 2, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Jack Campbell and the Rev. Bobby Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Flint Hill Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
