Frederick County Cattle Carrier Crash – Animals Still Reported At Large

Published

on

A livestock hauler carrying 110 cows overturned late last night, releasing many of the animals, which scattered and roamed away from the crash scene. The crash occurred near the intersection of Route 37 and Tasker Road just before midnight on 3/9/26.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division responded to handle the crash. FCSO patrol units and Animal Control Officers began working to contain and wrangle strays near the scene and realized that some cattle were making their way west towards Interstate 81 and east into wooded areas and undeveloped properties.

The agency’s Drone Team was activated and began conducting operations to locate as many cows as possible. The truck was originally carrying 110 cows, and as of the writing of this email, approximately 40 are unaccounted for. The roadway was shut down for 6–7 hours during vehicle and livestock recovery operations, and we are reminding motorists east of the crash location to exercise caution, as loose cattle may be crossing the road as they wander.

These animals will be difficult to see once night falls. The truck driver was taken by helicopter to a medical facility for treatment of burns suffered because of the crash, and no charges have been placed at this time.

Without any criminal charges in place, we will not be releasing any information on the truck driver at this time.
